Panta Rhei – Everything Flows An Experimental Video and Live Music Performance By Masa Hilcisin & Martin Andersson
In the midst of embracing new life after moving to a foreign country, dealing with nostalgia, emptiness, adapting to a new culture, identity shifts, uncertainty, excitement, love... we are exploring how to tell our stories through music, video, visual layers and sound.
We delve into personal narratives, exploring memories and themes from growing up in a war zone, surviving destructive nationalism, sexual violence, experiencing migration, losing a sense of belonging, losing home, family and friends to healing, power, vulnerability and hope. By creating a dialogue between music and experimental video, we explore personal storytelling and its connection to the social level.
The performance brings together different video forms combining abstraction with real footage and images, interacting with live music featuring electronics, piano, bass clarinet and melodica, exploring different sounds and styles from abstract noises and pads to meditative grooves incorporating Arabic, Brazilian and Nordic jazz fragments. Despite having grown up in two different cultures under very different circumstances, Panta Rhei is a truly personal project of an artistic couple.
